NOESIS at the 88th TIF

with impressive exhibits and

A “panorama” of its multidimensional action

How did Archimedes’ screw mechanism work, but also Heron’s mobile automatic theater, known as the… “cinema” of the ancient Greeks? The answer and a taste of the specific achievements of Ancient Greek Technology will have the opportunity to get those who visit Pavilion 7 of the 88th TIF, where the Science Center and Technology Museum – NOESIS will be present. NOESIS participates once again this year in TIF in the context of the presence of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI), under the “umbrella” of the Ministry of Development. In addition to the impressive exhibits, videos of its activities and multidimensional work will be presented on screens at the Center’s stand. Also, visitors will have the opportunity to see rich photographic and video material from the transferred exhibitions “IDEA – Ancient Greek Science and Technology” and “Connected – The history of computers and life with the Internet”. At the same time, they will have the opportunity to be informed about NOESIS’ program of events and actions for the next period 2024-2025. The presence of the Science Centre and Technology Museum at this year’s 88th TIF will be enriched with digital interpretative exhibits of NOESIS’ Ancient Greek Technology exhibition, as well as with the Augmented Reality Guided Tour Application from the Project “Virtual Museum of Industrial Heritage – Development, organization, documentation, management and promotion of NOESIS digital content”. This project, with MIS Code 5093002, is part of the Operational Programme “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, which is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) (More on the project website: https://www.noesis.edu.gr/noesis-online/). The exhibits In particular, the exhibits that will be presented at NOESIS stand are the following: 1. Digital interpretive exhibits of NOESIS’ Ancient Greek Technology exhibition Specifically, there will be a live demonstration from a mobile device and an augmented reality application for mobile smart devices will be presented to explain two exhibits of the Ancient Greek Technology exhibition: the mobile automatic theatre of Heron (Figure 1) and the cochlea of Archimedes (Figure 2). Through the application, the visitor can see in an “X-ray” individual parts of the mechanisms, how they work by viewing in three dimensions of the objects. They will also have access to other accompanying multimedia material, by identifying them through physical tags (QR codes). The aim of this application is to improve the visitor’s experience in the physical facilities of the museum. Also, the application aims not only at learning through “non-formal” education, but, mainly, at experiential experience. As NOESIS President, Dr. According to Dr. Styliani Bezergianni, “the active attitude towards the exhibits, the intention for emotional involvement, the participation with all the senses, are elements that encourage the acquisition of such an experiential experience”. Augmented Reality Tour Application During the TIF, there will also be a live demonstration of the “guide” application for mobile smart devices for the digital tour of permanent exhibitions of the NOESIS Technology Museum (exhibition of Cars and exhibition of Ancient Greek Technology). The application displays the showrooms in digital form, with a number of possibilities for each exhibit presented in the physical space. The aim of this application is to improve the experience of visiting the physical facilities of the museum, as it gives the visitor access to the documentation and the accompanying multimedia material (image, video, sound and 3D illustrations) of all the exhibits of the permanent exhibitions.
