FLL World Internet Robotics Championship from NOESIS
With a focus on NOESIS, the FIRST® LEGO® LEAGUE World Internet Championship will be broadcast online, which starts on Thursday 24 and ends on Sunday 27 June.
The championship is attended by 200 top student teams from more than 110 countries, about 1,600 students, coaches and 100 volunteers.
The theme of the competition is sports and the FIRST® LEGO® LEAGUE Virtual Open International Greece 2021, the first digital World Championship of Educational Robotics and Innovation, starts on Thursday, June 24, in Thessaloniki, at NOESIS.
The World Championship is held for the first time in Greece and in fact with the innovation of the hybrid process, as the 200 groups of children, aged 9-16 years from different countries, will each be at the school or at the place where they will train and compete with each other by utilizing technology.
“For us, the fact that in Europe, America and Asia we are the country that organizes this year the FIRST® LEGO® LEAGUE Virtual Open International Greece 2021 World Robotics Championship is a creative challenge and recognition of our work”, he stressed, during a press conference – presentation given, Konstantinos Vassilios, president of Eduact – Action for Education, the non-profit association that organizes the big event.
The program
On Thursday, the opening ceremony will take place with the parade of 200 groups (a number that also symbolizes the anniversary of the Revolution of 1821) and many artistic events. On Friday 25 and Saturday 26, the competition procedures and robot games will take place, with the 100 volunteers coordinating everything from the Science Dissemination Center and NOESIS Museum of Technology.
The distribution of seats for each country, as Mr. Vassiliou explained, has followed the Olympic model, so that there is the maximum possible representation of more than 110 countries from all over Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia and the 50 states of America. 27 Greek teams are participating in the World Championship, which emerged from the Panhellenic Competition of Educational Robotics and Innovation that ended a month ago.
The teams will compete digitally and innovation is the hybrid model, conditions that combine modern and asynchronous processes to present their work in three parts, innovation project, robot design and robot game and core values. 21st century skills and teamwork, which is judged by the judges.
Artists who will be in front of the cameras are the internationally renowned guitarist Gus G., Rous, the Thessaloniki Youth Band and the MOYSA – Youth Concert Hall Symphony Orchestra.
FIRST® LEGO® LEAGUE Virtual Open International Greece 2021 is organized by Eduact in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Religions, First and Lego Education under the auspices of the Ministry of Digital Governance, the National Committee “Greece 2021” and the National Olympic Committee and Academy with the support of the Region of Central Macedonia and the Sub-Region of Digital Governance.
From June 24 to 27, the events will be open to the public.

The campaign and the video for the promotion of the World Championship and sports include Antonis Nikopolidis, former international soccer player, Neri Niagouara swimmer, Takis Fyssas, former international soccer player, Vassilis, Voula Kozompolis gymnastics, Lila Koundourioti journalist and Antonis Tsapatakis, swimming athlete of the Paralympic Games. The Central Ambassador of the event is the former international football player and current Deputy Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, Angelos Charisteas and the Cultural Ambassador is the archaeologist Irini Tekidou.
