Innovative applications for mobile phones and devices for the protection of Public Health, at the 14th Student Informatics Conference!
With applications for the protection of Public Health, for mobile phones, for life in cities, with 3D products and with a total of 117 innovative works, the Student Conference of Informatics returns for the 14th year this year, at the NOESIS facilities.
The Student Conference is held under the responsibility of the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia, the NOESIS Foundation-Center for the Dissemination of Sciences and the Museum of Technology and the coordinators of the Educational Project in the field of Informatics, from 12 to 15.
More than 1,100 students – lecturers from 85 school units of all kinds and levels, mainly in Central Macedonia and under the guidance of more than 200 teachers will present innovative work in the field of application programming, robotics, smart devices, mobile applications and research projects.
“Ioannis Papaefstathiou” Student Innovation Award
This year is a special year as for the first time the Student Innovation Award “Ioannis Papaefstathiou” is instituted, which will be awarded by the NOISIS Foundation to students who were distinguished with their innovative projects last year.
With emphasis on Public Health
– The coronavirus pandemic, focused students’ interest in innovations that are directly related to the protection of Public Health.
– Students of the Experimental School of the University of Thessaloniki present an effective system for monitoring and improving air quality for classrooms. The project, which was first presented at last year’s event, was improved, financially supported by NOISIS and implemented at the school. The results and conclusions from its operation will be presented at the Conference.
– Targeted solutions to deal with the pandemic are proposed by students from New Philadelphia and Pentalofo Primary Schools. Covid Assistant and Covid Sterilizer aim to help the school’s student community with disinfection, protection, and information on coronavirus.
– The students of the 2nd General Lyceum of Kalamaria present a monitoring system of specific foods for the detection of possible alterations. Detection of possible alterations is done using sensors.
Smart cities, easy life
– Students of the 8th Gymnasium and the 7th GEL Kalamaria present constructions for safe manual handling of cargo with an audible warning to avoid accidents and injuries, while the students of the Gymnasium of the Aristotle College… clean with the ‘smart’
– Safety and convenience in everyday life are the demands for students who innovate. Students from the 5th and 1st GEL of Serres and the 1st EPAL of Kavala in collaboration with the Special School of EEEEK Serres created a “smart” system for monitoring the temperature and humidity of the environment and soil. Innovation finds application in crops and its construction highlights the collaborative spirit of the student community.
– Students from Pinewood School built an automatic car parking system that reduces traffic congestion, while students at the 11th Elementary School of Kalamaria deal with the safety of railway crossings by building a robotic system to prevent accidents.
– The proposal from the 79th Primary School of Thessaloniki for a plan to evacuate the school in case of natural disaster is also interesting. A proposal implemented with the help of the robot Edison.
– The students of the 1st High School of Pefkos propose solutions for a smart city that saves energy, is protected from natural disasters and is accessible for the visually impaired.
– Smart solutions for organizing school workshops are proposed by the students of the 1st EPAL Eleftherios Kordelios, who created special software for using QRCodes.
Deafolution, app for NGOs & UniGuide
– A pioneering application for mobile phones was created by the students of the Experimental School of Thessaloniki. This is Deafolution which helps deaf and hard of hearing people to order and communicate in restaurants without the use of sign language.
– Students from the 4th Elementary School of Kalamaria suggest their own app, which is an original social application. By using it, users are given the opportunity to record the food offered to NGOs, but also to make it available to those who need it.
– UniGuide, the informative guide of computer universities by EPAL sector, is an application created by the students of the 1st EPAL Didymoteicho in order to inform the EPAL students and the support for the correct completion of the computer.
– Students from “Anatolia” College present an application on mobile phones that pleasantly teaches English to children aged 5-8 years.
– The Experimental School of the University of Thessaloniki will present an intelligent Artificial Intelligence software in the learning of Greek Sign Language with automatic translation and visual database for the needs of the application.
3D printing at school service
– Students of the 5th Primary School of Veria designed and printed 3D school supplies for the needs of the school using a 3D printer of their laboratory.
– At 1oEPAL Giannitsa the students made a journey through time with the help of the 3D printer. They made 3D toys from Antiquity, presenting at the same time a possible version of future toys.
– The students of the 1st High School of Oreokastro designed and printed a 3D floor plan of the school building in order to design the accessibility of visually impaired people.
Proceeds from the promotion of the products of the 3D printed e-shop of the students of the American Agricultural High School will be donated to charitable actions of their School.
Student Conference from the Student Channel
The conference will be broadcast live through the Youtube channels of the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia and through the Panhellenic School Network on the website: http://www.mathitiko-synedrio.gr/
In this way all schools, students, teachers and parents will be able to attend all the proceedings of the Conference. At the same time, the YoutubeRadio of the conference will try to broadcast live the pulse of the protagonists, with a number of interviews with students-participants and teachers.
