NOESIS at the 87th TIF

NOESIS, in the context of the presence of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation (GSRI), under the Ministry of Development, participates again this year in TIF.

At Pavilion 7, the stand of the institution will present on video screens its activities and work, as well as photographic and video material from the transferred exhibitions IDEA – Ancient Greek Science and Technology and Connected – The history of computers and life with the Internet.

At the same time, the public will be able to be informed about the program of the next period 2023-2024 and the new temporary exhibition Eco-zoo.

NOESIS’ presence at TIF will be enriched with selected exhibits, such as a replica of the Antikythera Mechanism* and a 50kw Incandescent Electric Light Bulbs**.

* The Antikythera Mechanism was an analogue computer of amazing technology, the first in world history. It was constructed over 2000 years ago (2nd century BC) and was used to accurately calculate the position of the Sun, Moon and possibly planets in the sky. It calculated the phases of the Moon, predicted eclipses of the Sun and Moon and determined the date of the ancient games. A similar ancient mechanism has not been found to date. The Antikythera Mechanism is rightly considered as important for the development of Technology as the Acropolis for the evolution of Architecture.

** Electric lamp, used for demonstration at the PPC stand at the Thessaloniki International Fair, in the mid-1960s. Electric lighting lamps have evolved so much that today we get the same lighting consuming five times less electricity (LED technology lamps), which demonstrates the role and value of science and technology in the evolution of human civilization.

NOESIS also presents elements of its most recent temporary exhibition, Connected, on the new interconnected digital world, its history and its effects on modern life, at the stand of the Hellenic Museum of Technology, at the stand of the Ministry of Digital Governance.
