Ancient Chinese Science and Technology
The Science Center and NOΕSIS Museum of Technology in collaboration with the Museum of Science and Technology of China, organized this exhibition which was presented to the public in 2018-2019, at the NOΕSIS Museum of Technology.
This exhibition presents unique examples of paper, typography, magnetic compass, gunpowder, porcelain, silk, casting, astrolabes, ships, measuring instruments and more, highlighting the leading role of Chinese culture in many fields and at the same time reinforcing the view that the modern world is a product of the synthesis of the achievements of the East and the West.
The exhibition includes some of the most remarkable technological achievements of Chinese culture, one of the oldest in the world, relating to various fields of knowledge, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering, astronomy, etc. The content of the exhibition is developed in 4 main thematic sections: Astronomy and Measurement of Time, Navigation and Orientation, Textile and Embroidery, Paper Making and Printing.
In addition, models of various other great Chinese inventions are presented, such as the world’s first seismograph (132 AD), ancient agricultural tools (eg, the Chinese plow, created 5000 years ago), the forerunner of the odometer, the first handcart, built about a century before the corresponding European etc.
